“Avaz’s Dragon” Award for Best Overall Production – “In the Ceiling the Stars Are Shining”

“It was not easy to make a decision, as this year we had a competition of five truly excellent productions, and I congratulate the selector Ajla Bešić on her outstanding choice. This festival has shown how theatre can be brave, powerful, and emotional, but in the end, what guided our decision was emotion itself — and I am glad that we shared that emotion with the audience, for whom theatre is truly made.

We decided to give the main award to a production that managed to achieve what is most difficult in theatre: to be simultaneously gentle and brutally truthful, intimate and universal. At its core lies emotional honesty that leaves no viewer indifferent, precise direction that leads through the finest layers of human vulnerability, and acting that does not seek applause but understanding. It is a production that, through its simplicity, opens space for what is most important — the feeling that something real is happening on stage, something that belongs to all of us. For all these reasons, the ‘Avaz’s Dragon’ Award goes to the production that brought all of this together.”
