We proudly share in full the text of the recognition awarded to our colleague Vesa Karanović by the Union of Costume Designers and Professional Associates of Serbia:

This year, the Recognition for Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Costume Design Art is awarded to Vesa Karanović — a tailor and pattern maker, but above all, an exceptional artistic collaborator wholly and sincerely devoted to theatrical art. Vesa Karanović loves theatre, truly understands it, and knows how to create it. She is not one of those theatre employees whom you could easily imagine somewhere else — through her logic, speed, and skill, Vesa speaks the language of theatre, belongs to theatre and, without any exaggeration: theatre belongs to her.

What we also know about Vesa is that she is devoted not only to creating costumes, but also to passionately watching theatre performances, visiting exhibitions, and taking a deep interest in art and its creators in the broadest sense.

Through the continuous development of her taste, thought, and artistic language — alongside her passion for life and art — Vesa proves to be an incomparable interlocutor on the purpose and creation of costumes, as well as on the ways they function on stage. Everyone who has worked with her knows that Vesa Karanović is a collaborator with whom one may sometimes have to wrestle in a clash of opinions, from which both sides emerge victorious.

To some of us, Vesa was a theatre mother; to others, a sister; to all of us, a companion in the struggle. Some took their first steps into theatre alongside Vesa and grew together with her, nurturing one another along the way. Some were role models and authorities. Vesa has always shown attention and genuine interest in everyone’s art, perhaps only recently accepting that we, too, consider her our artistic companion.

We wholeheartedly celebrate her inexhaustible joy and persistent openness to new challenges and to the generations of young costume designers yet to come.
